The practice fields in the shadow of the Jan Breydel Stadium were once again entirely devoted to G-football on Saturday, May 16. For the 17th time, Club Brugge Foundation organized its annual G-football tournament. With 33 participating teams from Belgium, the Netherlands and, for the first time, England, this was the most international edition to date.
From 9 a.m. players, coaches and supporters poured in. After a warm opening ceremony, the first matches were kicked off at 10 a.m. on three fields. Together with Club Brugge Foundation's own teams, the G-team, the auti-football team Club Brugge Voetbalkraks and the Club Brugge Amp Team, 33 teams made it an unforgettable tournament day.
Everyone a winner
At the Club Brugge G-football tournament, there are no standings. Each team plays its matches, gives its best and above all experiences a sporting day full of soccer fun. It is precisely this approach that has made the tournament unique for 17 years.
The coaches were also asked to work with balanced lineups so that each match could be fair and sporting. Besides the games, the tournament was also about meeting and friendship. Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, players and supporters were able to enjoy drinks, snacks and music along the fields.
Visit of chairman Verhaeghe and mayor De fauw
Club President Bart Verhaeghe , following annual tradition, visited the G-football tournament and expressed his appreciation for the organization, which continues to grow year after year. "As Club president, I am particularly proud to be able to welcome so many G footballers here again. At Club Brugge it's obviously about performance on the pitch, but at least as important is that everyone can enjoy soccer. Today you show what soccer really means: having fun, playing together and always doing your best. Bluvn Goan!"
Mayor Dirk De fauw also stopped by to oversee the awards ceremony and had some nice words in store for the organization. "As mayor, I am proud that together with Club Brugge Foundation we can build a warm and inclusive society, where everyone finds their place and can enjoy soccer fun. This tournament has proven for 17 editions how strongly sport can connect people. Club Brugge Foundation does wonderful work here year after year and today is another example of this."
