Blauw-Zwart wins convincingly at Dender.
Christos Tzolis: "Scoring twice feels good"
"I am very happy with the victory today. It's an excellent result here. It hasn't been the easiest period the last few weeks, but today we played well. Especially our second half when we showed intensity and created a lot of chances. We’ve had quite a few games where the chances just wouldn’t go in, but today we were clinical. Scoring twice feels good, of course, but the most important thing is the convincing win. Now we have to take this momentum into next week and go again at full throttle."
Romeo Vermant: "I threw my body at the ball"
With two goals Romeo Vermant made his contribution to the big win against FC Dender. After an intense week, Club brought back the three points back to Bruges.
“It was important for us to deal with everything together, especially with the Champions League also in the mix. The coach handled it very calmly and kept the group united, and that’s reflected in this satisfying and comprehensive win. We made a few small adjustments at half-time and they helped us a lot. We knew we had to raise the tempo to beat Dender, and we managed to do that. Being able to contribute myself is a nice bonus. The main thing was getting the ball over the line. The cross wasn’t at the perfect height, so I just threw my body at it. I think I got the ball over the line with my lower body, but how it goes in doesn’t really matter, as long as it hits the back of the net.”
Ivan Leko: "We could have scored even more"
Ivan Leko's first match at the helm of Club ended in a convincing and moral-boosting 1-5 victory.
"This win is a relief for everyone, for the whole club. It had also been a while since we managed such a convincing result. The key was to stay calm, because it had been an intense week for both players and supporters. The lead-up to the match hadn't been ideal which makes me even more pleased with tonight's result. In fact, we could have scored even more. We played well and scored five goals. That's not easy in Belgium."
"I also want to credit FC Dender. They were on a good run and made it difficult for us. At half-time we made a few small adjustments. Our pressing wasn't good enough in the first half and defensively we weren't sharp enough, allowing them to create danger on the counter. That's why we asked our defence to mark their opponent closer. And it worked out, because our second half was a lot better. This was a well-deserved victory."
Next Sunday Club takes on Gent, Ivan Leko's former team. "Obviously, that will be a special game. But I am now the coach of Club Brugge, so I just fully focus on the match."
