Reactions after Club Brugge - RSC Anderlecht

Jupiler Pro League

Find out what our players and coach had to say after the draw between Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht.

Ivan Leko: "We missed that added touch"

"It was a match in which a lot happened. We started out very well, in full command of the first twenty minutes, with three fine chances, but you know you then have to score to create a good feeling. We didn't do that and then what happens so often in football happened once again: one team dominates, but one counterattack goes in and changes everything in terms of self-confidence. It helps them in believing that something is possible."

"We definitely wanted to avoid that and so we tried to score immediately after halftime, but on the first counter-attack we conceded again. I missed that added touch of finesse in the second half. It's also not easy to create many chances when the opponent is setting up camp in front of goal with nine men. Still, we're disappointed, as we wanted more out of this game. On the other hand, when you go behind twice, you also have to be happy with a point."

"It wasn't our best game. There were definitely things to draw lessons from. For example, we swallow goals far too easily. We take a lot of risks and I like that: taking the initiative, having possession of the ball, forcing a lot of chances, applying a lot of pressure. But then you know you also give away space. I won't be losing any sleep over it, but we have to do better defensively, especially with an eye on the playoffs."

"Tresoldi is doing everything he can to succeed. He lives for football 24/7: giving everything at training, watching his diet, doing yoga, going to bed early, you name it. On top of that, he is also tremendously good at training in terms of energy and pressing. He is excellent on the ball, has a good click with midfield, can put pressure constantly and has an excellent nose for goals. Someone who lives for his sport like that will reap the benefits sooner or later."

Simon Mignolet: "Tresoldi is doing very well"

"We pushed to get more out of it than an equalizer. We certainly had more ball possession, but they were dangerous on the break. Just before the equalizer they even had a chance to finish it off. You have to win at home, but unfortunately that didn't come about. Tresoldi is doing very well, let him continue like that."

Hans Vanaken: "We did everything we could to score that equalizer"

"If you look at the positive style of football, we deserved to win today. Of course, when you concede twice against a team that primarily thinks defensively, it's tough. We did everything we could to score the equalizer, but unfortunately we missed another big chance to win. So if one team deserved to win, maybe it was us."

"They also had some chances in the conversion, of course that's the risk of how we play. Fortunately Simon played a good game and kept us afloat there. Anderlecht kept the center closed, so our danger mainly came from our wings. If they focus on me and Stanković in the center, we know there will be chances through Tzolis and Forbs anyway."

Aleksandar Stanković: "Draw not enough"

"It was a difficult match for us. From the beginning we were able to put Anderlecht under pressure, which came with quite a few chances, but in spite of that we went behind twice. Anderlecht scored as many goals out of two chances and of course that's not something we hadn't counted upon."

"I agree that in the second half things went a little less fluent, but Anderlecht's positioning also had to do with that. After they went ahead 1-2, they pulled back even more and it became even harder for us to find a hole in their fortified defense."

"Actually, it's always the same in the Belgian league: every team waits for us with a double belt of defenders to then try to get out on the counter, which earned Anderlecht two goals."

"Despite the fact that we were able to come back from a deficit twice, we are still not satisfied with the 2-2, because that draw is not enough, especially if you have seen the course of play in this match. Actually, we can't blame ourselves, because we worked very hard to win this one, but it really didn't go our way today."
