Club - Charleroi: the Club Facts

Jupiler Pro League

Once again it’s time for league football at Jan Breydel! On matchday 15, Blue-Black host Sporting Charleroi at home. Read everything about the match here!

The match

It is the 111th encounter between the two teams. The previous 55 home matches against the Zebras ended in 41 wins (most recently 4–2 on 16/03/2025), 9 draws (most recently 2–2 on 22/01/2023), and 5 defeats (most recently 0–1 on 08/08/2020). In the last 4 home matches, Club scored 12 times against Sporting. But in the last 3, Club also conceded exactly 2 goals each time from the Carolos.

Last season, Club collected 4 out of 6 points against Charleroi. At Mambourg, Club narrowly avoided a defeat when Hans Vanaken cancelled out a goal by Parfait Guiagon in the 91st minute. At Jan Breydel, there was a spectacular 4–2 win with goals from Jutglà, De Cuyper, Jashari and Vermant for Club, while Guiagon and Mbenza scored for the visitors.

Christos Tzolis is Club’s top scorer with 5 goals. Across all competitions this season, he has already been involved in 17 goals (8 goals + 9 assists). Tzolis shares the title of assist leader with Carlos Forbs. Both have already provided 3 assists in the league.

This will be a special match for two people on the bench at both sides. Assistant coach Joseph Akpala made his breakthrough in Belgium in 2006 with Sporting Charleroi. After 2.5 years with the Zebras, he joined Club Brugge for four seasons. Rik De Mil went through all the youth ranks as a coach before becoming interim coach at Club Brugge. Since March 2024, he has been in charge of the Zebras.

The opponent

Rik De Mil’s troops can be found on the 9th place in the standings after 14 matchdays with 18 points. Sporting Charleroi had a poor season start with an early elimination from the Conference League and 3 points out of 12 in the league. But in recent weeks things have started turning around again, with, among others, a stunning win at home against RSC Anderlecht (1–0) and an away victory at KRC Genk (0–1).

Ivorian forward Parfait Guiagon is Charleroi’s top scorer with 4 goals. In the past, he has already scored 3 times against Club Brugge. Only Charly Jacobs (5) and Dante Brogno (4) have ever done better for the Zebras against Blue-Black.
