THE OPPONENT
Purple and White hope to win their 10th Belgian Cup this Sunday. Anderlecht have reached the final 14 times before and won 9 of these matches. Their last cup triumph dates back to 2008, when they defeated KAA Gent. Since then, RSCA have lost two finals — in 2015 (against Club Brugge) and in 2022 (against Gent).
Under coach Besnik Hasi, Anderlecht reached this year’s final after victories over Union Tubize-Braine, Westerlo, Beerschot and Antwerp. With 5 goals, Kasper Dolberg is Purple and White’s top scorer in this cup campaign.
This season, Club and Anderlecht have already faced each other three times in the league — Club remained unbeaten in all three encounters.
MILESTONES
- Brandon Mechele could play his 40th Belgian Cup match for Club Brugge. He is the only player in the current squad who was also on the pitch during the 2015 cup victory against Anderlecht.
- Hans Vanaken has the chance to win his second Belgian Cup. In 2014, he lifted the trophy with Sporting Lokeren, providing the assist for the only goal in the final.
- Raphael Onyedika could feature in his 10th cup match for Club Brugge.
- It will be the 70th official match for Club under head coach Nicky Hayen (40 wins, 16 draws, 13 defeats).
THE MAN IN BLACK
The final will be refereed by Mr. Jasper Vergoote. It will be his first-ever Belgian Cup final.
The 33-year-old West Fleming will be assisted by linesmen Mr. Michael Geerolf and Mr. Martijn Tiesters. Mr. Nicolas Laforge will act as the fourth official. The VAR will be Mr. Jan Boterberg, supported by Mr. Kevin Debeuckelaere and Mr. Jonas Timmermans.
